Jonathan Curry-Machado is a writer, historian and actor, currently based in London where he lives with his wife Eldimarys and their son Ashleigh. As a writer, he worked as a poet in Cuba where he was a founding member of Omni-Zona Franca, and is currently writing a novel that is emerging from the many scraps he has written over the years. As a historian, he has made a name for himself through his research into the Cuban sugar industry and the lives of the migrant engineers who brought steam to the island, coordinates the Commodities of Empire Project, and is currently working on the historical impact of commodity frontiers on rural communities. Having belatedly discovered an attraction to the stage, he has recently embarked on a new adventure into acting.
